Diebold Bolsters Healthcare Self-Service Portfolio Through Acquisition Of Aurillion

Diebold will showcase its expanded healthcare offerings at HIMSS 2010 in Atlanta

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – In support of the healthcare industry’s growing need to effectively manage technology, secure patient information and increase revenues, Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD) has bolstered its healthcare portfolio with the acquisition of Aurillion – a patient self-service and healthcare workflow management company. The acquisition expands Diebold’s healthcare products and services to include scalable patient self-service solutions that drive efficiencies in patient service, staff workflow and revenue cycle management.

Diebold will showcase its full line of healthcare solutions, including technology services, comprehensive security and self-service kiosks and tablets at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in Atlanta, Ga. (Booth #8266).

“Combining Aurillion’s unique software platform with our core competencies in service and security, we’re able to accelerate product development and offer mission-critical features that provide faster, more accurate patient care experiences, while providing healthcare organizations with revenue-generating technology,” said Kevin Mickle, director, service business development, Diebold.

Diebold’s Healthcare Portfolio

Self-Service:
Through the acquisition of Aurillion, Diebold offers a patient self-service kiosk, tablet or other electronic device which enables patients to control data input while proprietary software verifies, organizes and delivers information to the healthcare organization’s host systems.  For patients, the result is a reduction in wait times, paperwork errors and delay of care.  For healthcare organizations, automating data input and information workflow results in greater accuracy of patient and insurance records, timely revenue cycle management and improvements in patient satisfaction.

As government mandates and access to health insurance change, healthcare organizations will begin to rely on patient revenue to help grow the bottom line.  With the swipe of a credit card at the point of check-in, a patient’s co-pay or balance due amount can be processed and verified in real-time to prevent delays and mistakes.  Diebold’s system accelerates information management by helping to administer, collect and process financial transactions prior to care, allowing healthcare organizations to recover payments that may otherwise go uncollected.

Retail: Diebold's existing retail remote transaction systems use a pneumatic tube system to transport documents and filled prescriptions between the pharmacy and customer terminals. Two-way closed circuit television and audio systems provide communication between the customer and pharmacy personnel.  Walk-up prescription delivery terminals help manage store traffic, improve customer convenience and enhance security for pharmacy personnel.

Security: Diebold provides customized and integrated security solutions that address the security and safety issues facing healthcare organizations today.  Through a full range of services – from access control and surveillance systems to perimeter protection and fire and life safety systems – Diebold can design, implement and manage every aspect of a comprehensive security solution. With its new healthcare self-service solution, Diebold is able to leverage its logical security solutions to help prevent breaches, such as malware attacks, while strategically monitoring, tracking and logging all suspicious activity. Security is essential to the success of patient self-service,” Mickle added.  “Diebold’s security software is able to add layers of encryption to confidential data that is unmatched in the industry, providing peace of mind to patients and healthcare organizations.”

Service: Diebold offers a number of technology services to help streamline workflow and reduce in-house information technology (IT) service expenses, including access to HIPAA-trained technicians, installation and training, preventive maintenance, break-fix services, hardware/software refreshes and monitoring.  With more than 4,000 directly employed service professionals globally, Diebold is able to help healthcare organizations meet regulation requirements, standardize technology platforms and ensure consistent availability of IT components, including self-service kiosks.
