Welcome to the May edition of the Diebold Media Tip Sheet

The Diebold Media Tip Sheet was created for media contacts that follow or are interested in news from Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE:DBD). This monthly e-publication is intended to provide information about the latest events and happenings from Diebold’s self-service, security and service operations around the world.

ImageWay® reduces costs, streamlines check processing for credit union
To save money, streamline check processing and make funds available more quickly for its members by using advanced check imaging technology, Premier Members Federal Credit Union (FCU) in Boulder, Colo., implemented Diebold’s ImageWay® portfolio. Diebold’s ImageWay portfolio encompasses all capture points including the ATM, the branch and remote business locations.

As part of this project, Premier Members FCU updated its ATM network with 12 new Opteva® ATMs with Intelligent Depository Modules™ (IDMs). The IDMs integrate with ImageWay ATM, Diebold’s Web-based image processing system, to determine check amounts, assess image quality and transfer deposit images and transaction data back to the credit union’s central processing site.

Next, Premier Members FCU implemented ImageWay Branch capture in eight of its branches. ImageWay Branch allows the credit union to accelerate check processing by capturing all of the checks deposited through the branch in batches behind the teller counter. Data is then transmitted to its central processing site, and check posting and fund availability is nearly instantaneous for credit union members.

Premier Members FCU also deployed ImageWay Remote, which enables Premier Members FCU’s merchant members to make deposits from their offices or store locations.

Craig Sieg, vice president, integrated services/information technology, Premier Members FCU, is very pleased with Diebold’s ImageWay portfolio. “Diebold was the only company that could provide all of the solutions we were looking for,” he said. “The solution has been, and continues to be, great to work with.” Read the entire
case study. For more information, contact DeAnn Zackeroff at 330.490.5220.

White paper offers tips to make deposit automation successful
What steps should financial institutions take to be sure their deposit automation solutions are successful? Diebold’s financial self-service marketing team recently published a white paper titled “Deposit Automation: The Inside Story,” which outlines factors financial institutions need to consider. These include obtaining a quality image at the ATM, aggregating transactions, ensuring transaction integrity, coordinating the needs of all involved entities and more. Each of these considerations assists financial institutions in enhancing customer service, a proven way to attract and retain their customers and members. For more information, contact DeAnn Zackeroff at 330.490.5220.

150th anniversary: Diebold safeguards customers during Great Depression
No one man so personified the Gangland Era as did a dapper-dressed, gun-toting, bank-robbing, wise-cracking ladies man from Indianapolis, Ind. He was John Dillinger, the notorious leader of the murderous Dillinger Gang and the first man ever labeled by federal law enforcement as “Public Enemy No. 1.” In a career that lasted barely 13 months, his gang had killed 10 men, wounded seven others, robbed numerous banks, raided police arsenals and staged three jailbreaks.

Diebold knew Dillinger’s reputation well. Our salespeople would actually mention him by name, cite his exploits and detail the threat he and his gang posed to the nation’s financial security. Bankers were understandably fearful and perplexed. What could they do to safeguard their institutions and their customers? Diebold had an answer.

In partnership with the Lake Erie Chemical Company, Diebold devised a system whereby strategically placed teargas canisters could be set off, enveloping bank lobbies in clouds of the disabling agent.

We reported brisk sales of the teargas system throughout five Midwestern states in the early 1930s.
