Diebold’s Greensboro distribution center marks shipment of 2,000 ATMs
A new milestone for cost effectiveness and manufacturing efficiency was set earlier this year by Diebold’s configuration and distribution center in Greensboro, N.C., said Mike Carter, production supervisor, Diebold. The 2,000th final configuration ATM shipped from the facility earlier this year.
The new process for manufacturing, configuring and shipping ATMs to U.S. destinations has improved Diebold’s responsiveness to customer requests and shortened lead-times. Carter said overall manufacturing inventory was reduced and consolidation of operations further reduced operating costs.
Greensboro is the only site in the United States where Diebold ATMs are modified to exact customer specifications after base terminals arrive there from Lexington, N.C.; Budapest, Hungary; and Shanghai, China. The units need configuration upgrades, such as additional software, upgrades to card readers or additional capability modules to ready them for U.S. customers. Credit union first to leverage Diebold’s Integrated Services® solutions to enhance operations
Medina County Federal Credit Union, a longtime Diebold customer, recently became the first to choose Diebold’s Integrated Services® to help it expand its capabilities without growing its staff. By leveraging Diebold Integrated Services for security and transaction processing, the credit union now achieves more efficient operation and enables its staff to focus on customers.
Less than six weeks after Pete Grimm, president, Medina County Federal Credit Union, discussed Diebold’s outsourcing solution, the financial institution planned to open a new branch, and he wanted Diebold’s Integrated Services security solution to be a part of the new branch. And Diebold helped make it happen.
“We only had a month and a half to get the entire implementation up and running,” Grimm said. “And we made it. Diebold’s commitment to making it work and meeting our timeline was obvious—they took it very seriously. We worked the bugs out together. It was great timing, especially considering it was the first time for everything.”
As Medina County FCU continued to grow, its security operation became increasingly complex. By outsourcing such tasks to an expert, Grimm was able to eliminate the need for his staff to spend time on the administrative requirements of maintaining an effective security system.
“There’s no question—Diebold has our business,” Grimm said. “They’ve absolutely met our needs. We don’t go with anyone else because Diebold is the best. The product is the best. The service is the best.” Read more about Medina County FCU’s experience with Diebold. For more information, contact DeAnn Zackeroff at 330.490.5220.
150th anniversary: Security division employee continues grandfather’s legacy at Diebold
"My grandfather, Jim, worked at Diebold from 1941 to 1981 at Plant 1 in Canton, Ohio. We had a very close relationship. I spent a lot of time with him, and over the years he inspired me in many ways," recalls Michael DeWalt, senior global product manager, security division.
"One thing my grandfather always talked about – even prior to my employment at Diebold – was Diebold's people and the pride they had in their work. He always told me that Diebold hired good people – and that made it a great company. I always thought Diebold seemed like a great place to work. Imagine my surprise when I received a letter from the company with the opportunity to participate in its co-op program, which I did from 1996-1998. My grandfather was very proud.
"But our employment at Diebold wasn’t the only thing my grandfather and I had in common. We were both heavily involved with Mosler, but in different ways. My grandfather was constantly reminded to be better than Mosler because it was our fiercest rival in security at the time; whereas I was involved with the Mosler asset acquisition," explains DeWalt.
"In the early stages, I wasn’t able to speak about it. Once I could, he was the first person I contacted. He could not believe it. Imagine working at a company for 40 years and all you heard was, 'We need to be better than Mosler.' Then imagine your grandson saying he worked on a project to help assist in the purchase of Mosler's assets."
